As the
international pageant season is about to begin, Miss World Organization [MWO]
announced new changes in the competition with the introduction of the Head to
Head Challenge events which will take place between October 21 and November 15
in different locations visited by the contestants during the Miss World 2015
Festival.
According to MWO,
20 groups of 6 countries will go to head-to-head for a place in the Top 40
Round (the number of countries in each group may be adjusted according to the
final number of candidates) and the winner of each challenge will automatically
qualify for the Miss World Top 40 Round.
The Challenge –
Online Live Broadcast is another new segment to look forward to. The 6 Nations
in each group will make their opening remarks followed by a presentation of
themselves. This can be a combination of live presentation and the pre-recorded
VT with a maximum time of 2 minutes.
After the
presentations, contestants will answer questions from the presenter and online
community and this procedure will be part of a Group discussion that will last
for about 8 minutes. Lastly, each candidate will answer the question of the day
about 30-45 seconds for each country to answer.
But how they will
be judged? The public will be asked to choose the winner of each Group thru a
free vote. The presenter will open the vote to the public after the opening
presentations and voting will remain open until the start of the next challenge
event when the winner of the previous Head To Head Challenge will be announced.
The Group will be
decided with a live draw and which countries will go into which groups.
How they would
know when their representative is competing? Schedule of the exact dates and
time of each Challenge event will be issued after the Miss World Group draw
takes place.
Will it affect the
placement in the Miss World final? MWO said there will be Top 40 which will
comprise the following: 20 Head To Head Challenge winners; 5 Fast-Track Event’s
winners; and 15 Judges choices.
It added, “if a
contestant does not win her Head To Head Challenge, she still has a chance to
be in the Top 40 by winning a fast-track or though judges selection. This means
that every country will now have their opportunity to be in the spotlight
during the Miss World Festival. The online “daily” challenge show will be
offered, via MW website, media partners and social media. All voting is free
Via Miss World App or Facebook (or a FREE equivalent in a country cannot
download the app or does not have Facebook).” [Source: www.missworld.com]
In the
Philippines, nobody see it coming! But changes do really come for a reason.
With the new franchise owner of Miss World Philippines - from Cory Quirino to
talent manager Arnold Vegafria, a new setting is ready to embark with the
search for a new queen to best represent the Philippines in the 2017 edition of
Miss World.
In January this
year, pageant fanatics were surprised when Quirino eventually gave up the Miss
World franchise leaving the pageant enthusiasts speculating as to what’s going
to happen with the Miss World Philippines since the country made a remarkable
streak in the 66 year old worldwide renowned beauty pageant.
First major
changes, MWP has its new national director in the person of Vegafria of ALV
talent Circuit and general manager Bessie Besana, an up-and-coming fashion
designer and experienced pageant trainer from Aces & Queens beauty camp.
Vegafria was offered by MWO Chairperson Julia Morley when the two met in
Beverly Hills, California.
Next stop, MWP has
a bigger and better venue as it will have its finals at SM Mall of Asia Arena
on 3 September 2017; a new crown is at stake as Miss World 2013 Megan Young
collaborates with renowned jeweler to create a new MWP crown. According to the
organizer, it will be sleeker and more elegant in design and will complement
the color motif [blue and silver] of the MW; luckily, this year’s candidates
will surely make the best way out to win one of the three [3] coveted titles
including Miss World Philippines while Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, Miss
Multinational and Miss Eco Philippines will have its inauguration crown.
A new competition
format is also about to unfold. It will most likely replicate the MW format
following the fast-track events and this includes: Brand Fashion Show where the
Top Model Challenged will be showcased, Charity Gala night where Talent
Competition will be held, Sports Challenge where candidates will be divided
into three [3] teams, Beach Beauty Challenge and the Charity Day.
Also part of the
major changes in format is the new theme song of the Miss World Philippines,
written and performed by R&B artists Jay-R and Kris Lawrence where the
press and other invited guests had the chance to listen to the new theme song
and samples were given away during the launched recently.
The new official
website of MWP is www.missworldphilippines.org
and the new official hashtag is #msworldphil while the twitter account is
MsWorldPhil.
It also announced
the new charity beneficiary of the MWP, the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center
in Sta. Cruz, Manila. According to Vegafria, he is hoping that through their
efforts, they will be able to renovate and build better wards (particularly for
cancer patients and childre0 to provide better medical attention to those in
need.
Truly, Miss World
and Miss World Philippines are exciting as other international renowned
pageants as it reinvent and employ new practices and format.
