Linguist model wins Miss Universe Thailand

Asian beauties are taking every inch the contender to beat in the 66th edition of Miss Universe happening later this year.

This after, 25 year old Mareeya Poonlertlarp, half-Thai, half-Swedish model bagged the Miss Universe Thailand 2017 in a glittering production at Siam Paragon Hall last 29 July. She will represent Thailand in the upcoming Miss Universe 2017.

Mareeya, towering at 5’9, holds a postgraduate in Marketing from the Stockholm Business School, won Bt1 million in cash, a diamond tiara, a trophy and a brand new car.

She speaks four languages fluently – Thai, Swedish, English and Mandarin and started modeling at the age of 13.

“I want to do good for the society at large and the status of Miss Universe Thailand allows me to follow my passion efficiently. This beauty stage is powerful to speak and to do something for the society. The rights of women in Thailand, their education and premature pregnancy of teenagers are the three key issues I want to draw people’s attention,” Mareeya said.
Her experiences as a model helped her boost her confidence on stage.

“Being a model allows me to know my best camera angle for the natural and best look and how to walk or stand with good posture. I joined this contest with full confidence and I truly believe that I fit in with this beauty pageant. My family members and friends all support me, she furthered.

Supaporn Litiphruek was her first Runner Up and awarded Bt500,000 in cash while Suraphuen Artkongharn, Ratchanok Nawaset and Paweensuda Du-uen were joint second Runners Up and received Bt150,000 each.

In 2016, Chalita Suansane represented Thailand in the 65th Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines and made it to the Top 13 after earning the highest fan votes worldwide but ended up only in the Top 6, the highest placement for Thailand in 28 years. In 1998, Porntip Nakhirankanok won Miss Universe for Thailand.
